Bicycle island
The island is best to explore
by bicycle. An extensive
network of cycle paths bring
you to the best locations.

The comfortable outer dike
bicycle path from East to
West is unique. You cycle along
the famous WaddenSea
(UNESCO region) with its salt
marshes, mud flats and
thousands of birds.
The beautifully situated bike
path at the north of the villages
goes through dunes and forest.
Sports on Terschelling
The island is an excellent environment for sports and playing.
Swimming in the sea or the swimming pool, hiking or cycling, stepping, jogging and marathon tours, canoeing on the Wadden sea. Terschelling has a half-and full marathon, several organized walking tours and tournaments. Hikers can choose their own routes on more than one hundred kilometers of unpaved forest and dune paths or make use of marked trails and nature trails.
Together with the Tourist Office is a cycling- and walking book published which details all along the routes described. The cycling-walking book is only available in Dutch. En route you can enjoy on to the highest dunes from distant views. The Seinpaalduin at West Terschelling (31 meters above sea level) and the famous Arjensduin at Hee (27 meters) for example.
Horseback riding.Terschelling is particularly ideal for horseback riding, both on the beach and in the woods and dunes, where an extensive network of bridle paths is found. Horseback riding on the beach is an adventure. At various points one can rent a horse.
Surfing.On the south side of the island, in the Wadden Sea, one can surf safely in several areas.
Swimming.In the dunes near West-Terschelling is located the swimming paradise de Dôbe”, a modern covered swimming pool with many attractive amenities. In the month of July and August there is lifeguard service on the beaches of West-Terschelling and Midsland aan Zee.
Fishing.On Terschelling one can enjoy mainly offshore fishing. In the high season boat trips are organized almost every day, giving the visitor an opportunity to fish in the Wadden Sea.
Tennis.Both in West-Terschelling and in Oosterend, tennis courts are available for rental.
